Thursday 13th January β walk ***** β Hemley Church to Waldringfield β
sunny, still and mild.
The perfect winter weather continues with very light winds, sunshine and
feeling very mild, ideal to get out and about enjoying the best that
wonderful Suffolk has to offer, just so lucky to live here:) Usual morning
at home then after going out on the bikes yesterday Mag and I decide to
drive over to Hemley Church with a picnic but this time take the footpath
to Waldringfield. Setting off at 12.20, I forgot to take the rucksack so
Mag puts the lunch in a Lidl bag for life heading down the lane to the
cottages which then turns into a farm track. It was very mild and we were
overdressed, you definitely did not need a big coat. You pass through
farmland with lovely views down to the River Deben with hardly a ripple on
it, just perfect, so quiet too with very few people about. There was still
frost on the ground in the shaded areas and soon spotted a Kestrel which
posed for us on a telegraph pole close by:) Reaching the small lake near
Waldringfield with some top reflections from the trees and coming out by
the sailing club boatyard with no dinghies there at all and very few boats
moored on the river, just loads of mooring bouys! We sit by the river and
enjoy our picnic, for the second day running we have a yummy chicken
sandwich with tomato cuppa soup, we know how to live! So peaceful, pretty
as a picture we enjoy watching the birds on the river including Red Shanks,
Gulls, Lapwings, Teal and Widgeon. Well rested we continue past the Maybush
pub and out onto the river path soon spotting Avocets and Curlews, in fact
we had four Curlews fly overhead to search for worms in the nearby fields!
We do the big loop before returning to Waldringfield Church for a quick
break with a welcome orange before completing the return to the van with
sadly my right heel starting to play up, itβs been dodgy a year now and
does restrict walking these days:( We had been out for three fantastic
hours covering over 5 miles, the absolute perfect winters day:)
